Biltong60
Some foods are served. Biltong is cut.
And that small difference is where the story of this knife begins.
There is something wonderfully South African about taking a proper strip of biltong in one hand and a sharp little knife in the other. No plate required. No instruction manual. Just one important decision: how thick is the next slice going to be?
Paper thin? A proper chewy slice? A shameless chunk from the fatty end? Everyone has an opinion. That is half the fun.
The SharpThings Biltong60 was made for that moment.
Its 60 mm blade is deliberately compact. This is not a big knife cut down to size. It is a purpose-sized biltong knife that sits close to the hand and gives you control over every slice. The short blade feels natural when working directly from a strip, whether you are standing at the kitchen counter, sitting around a fire, watching rugby, travelling, or opening the biltong bag that was supposedly going to last the weekend.
The blade is made from 5160 spring steel, a tough high-carbon steel with the honest character of a working knife. It takes a keen edge and, because it is not stainless, it will slowly develop a natural patina as it is used. In a knife like this, that ageing does not spoil the story. It becomes part of it.
The Wild Olive handle brings the other half of the character. Warm, tactile and unmistakably African, its grain varies naturally from knife to knife. The steel will change with use. The timber will carry its own markings. Your Biltong60 will not stay factory-perfect because it was never meant to be a factory knife.
Biltong itself began as necessity and became tradition. The knife that cuts it should feel the same way: simple, useful, personal and always close enough to reach for one more piece.
From farm kitchens and hunting camps to braais, bakkies, road trips and rugby afternoons, biltong has a habit of bringing people together. Someone opens the bag. Someone says they only want one piece. Five minutes later everybody is arguing about who finished it.
That is the real job of the Biltong60.
Not just to cut biltong, but to become part of the ritual around it.
Cut it yourself. Cut it your way. Pass it around. Hide the last piece.

Care and Protection
5160 is a high-carbon, non-stainless steel. Wipe the blade clean and dry after use, especially after contact with food, moisture or salt. A natural patina may develop over time and is part of the character of the steel.
Apply a light coat of SharpWax to the blade before storage to help protect it from fingerprints and humidity. SharpWax can also be used sparingly on the Wild Olive handle.
*Natural variation notice: SharpThings knives are handmade using natural hardwoods. No two pieces are identical — handle grain, colour and character will vary from the images shown. Photos are taken in a lightbox without post-processing to represent the knife accurately, but your piece will be uniquely its own.*
