A serious 5160 working knife for camp cooking, braai prep and the jobs that happen between the two.

Some knives are designed around one job. This one is designed around the fact that a good day outdoors rarely has only one job.

The Blackwood Camp Utility combines a broad, controlled blade with 5 mm 5160 spring steel, giving it the backbone for heavier food preparation, camp chores and braai-side cutting without turning it into an oversized chopper.

The blade shape carries enough belly for smooth slicing, enough point for accurate work and enough width to feel planted on a board. It is the kind of knife that can portion meat, prep vegetables, open packaging, cut cord and still look completely at home beside a fire and a chopping board.

Blackwood gives the handle a dark, understated finish, while red G10 liners provide a thin flash of colour when the knife is viewed from the side. Stainless steel pins keep the construction clean and practical.

This is not a decorative interpretation of an outdoor knife. It is a substantial utility built to be used, maintained and carried into the next weekend away. The more jobs it collects, the more sense it makes.

Care and protection

  • 5160 is a high-carbon, non-stainless spring steel. Clean the blade after use and dry it thoroughly before storage.
  • Do not leave the knife wet, soaking in water or in a dishwasher. Acids, salt and moisture can mark carbon steel quickly.
  • A light coat of SharpWax on the blade before storage helps protect against fingerprints and humidity. SharpWax can also be used sparingly on natural timber handles.

Natural variation notice: SharpThings knives are handmade using natural hardwoods. No two pieces are identical - handle grain, colour and character will vary from the images shown. Photos are taken in a lightbox without post-processing to represent the knife accurately, but your piece will be uniquely its own.
