Butcher's Panga
Big Blade. Real Work.
Some knives are bought because you need them. This one is bought because the moment you pick it up, you start finding reasons to need it.
The Butcher's Panga sits somewhere between a serious butcher knife, a camp chopper and the old South African panga. It is unapologetically large, hand-forged from 5160 spring steel and finished with a Wild Olive Burl handle that gives every knife its own distinctly African character.
This is the blade for the jobs the little knife politely declines. Big cuts of meat, heavy camp preparation, splitting kindling, clearing a stubborn branch, working around the fire or simply putting a grin on the face of the person who believes every braai deserves at least one completely unnecessary amount of knife.
The broad blade carries its forged character proudly. It is not polished into anonymity. It looks and feels like a tool made by hand, with enough presence to become the knife everybody asks about before the meat is even on the coals.
And yes, it comes with a leather sheath. The sheath on this knife is deliberately close-fitting and may feel very snug when new. It can require firm, controlled pressure to draw and re-sheath the knife at first. This is normal for the fit and the leather should bed to the knife with use. Do not force the knife with your hand in front of the cutting edge.
The Butcher's Panga is not trying to be subtle. It is a working knife with theatre built in, the kind of piece that can earn its keep at camp and still become the centre of conversation around the fire.
For the person who already owns a knife, and now wants a story.

Sheath fit
The leather sheath is intentionally close-fitting. When new, the knife may require a firm, controlled draw and re-sheathing action. The leather should gradually bed to the knife with normal use. Do not force the knife or place a hand in front of the cutting edge while drawing or re-sheathing it.
Care and Protection
5160 is a high-carbon, non-stainless steel and will naturally develop a patina. Clean and dry the blade after use and do not store it wet. Apply a light coat of SharpWax to the blade before storage to help protect against fingerprints and humidity. The Wild Olive Burl handle can also be treated lightly with SharpWax as required.
*Natural variation notice: SharpThings knives are handmade using natural hardwoods. No two pieces are identical — handle grain, colour and character will vary from the images shown. Photos are taken in a lightbox without post-processing to represent the knife accurately, but your piece will be uniquely its own.
