The VeldRanger was developed around a simple idea: one dependable knife that can comfortably move between the veld, hunting camp, braai, farm and everyday outdoor work.

It is a substantial working knife without becoming unnecessarily large. The 120 mm blade provides enough cutting edge for serious field and camp tasks while remaining controllable for finer work, food preparation and general utility use.

Its design grew from the original SharpThings Utility 250 project, which set out to create an affordable premium South African full-tang utility knife rather than another oversized survival blade. The emphasis from the beginning was on practical blade geometry, comfortable ergonomics, durability and confidence in the hand.

The finished VeldRanger carries that thinking forward in AEB-L stainless steel.

AEB-L gives the knife excellent everyday practicality, combining fine-edge capability with the corrosion resistance expected from a stainless field knife. The broad working profile provides useful strength and slicing ability, while the 120 mm length keeps the knife manageable when control matters.

The handle uses textured G10 composite scales, shaped to provide a secure grip and comfortable control during extended use. Depending on the individual knife, the scales are finished in either textured black G10 or a black and red G10 combination, giving each version its own character without changing the working design.

Full-tang construction runs through the heart of the VeldRanger, creating a strong, balanced knife intended for genuine use.

For generations, rangers, farmers, hunters and outdoorsmen have relied on a good knife as one of the simplest and most valuable tools they carry. The VeldRanger is made in that tradition.

Strong, balanced and purposeful, it is designed for real use in the field, around camp and across the farm.

A South African working knife made to earn its place.

The VeldRanger is deliberately uncomplicated.

The satin-finished AEB-L blade, full-tang construction and heavily textured G10 handle give it the feel of a serious working tool rather than a display piece. Its 120 mm blade sits in a useful middle ground: large enough to tackle meaningful outdoor work, yet compact enough to remain comfortable and controllable.

The result is a knife that can spend the morning in the veld, work beside the braai that afternoon and still be the blade you reach for around camp that evening.

Care

AEB-L is stainless steel and offers very good corrosion resistance, making the VeldRanger particularly suitable for outdoor and food-related use.

Wipe or wash the blade clean after use and dry it before storage. The G10 handle requires little maintenance and can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent when necessary.

A light application of SharpWax can be used on the blade and other exposed metal surfaces for additional storage protection.

Natural variation notice: SharpThings knives are handmade using natural hardwoods. No two pieces are identical — handle grain, colour and character will vary from the images shown. Photos are taken in a lightbox without post-processing to represent the knife accurately, but your piece will be uniquely its own.
